HIPAA

HIPAA stands for the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act and is a federal law created in l996 to protect the confidentiality of people's medical records and personal health information among other things. All healthcare providers, including Home Therapy, must comply with HIPAA requirements. The HIPAA requirements are very specific about what circumstances a health care provider can share a patient's health care information and with whom. A health care provider must also protect the identity of the patient's information. HIPAA also stipulates that each health care provider involved in the direct treatment of a patient must provide the patient with a NOTICE of PRIVACY PRACTICES. You will find a copy of our Notice in the section following this one on this website. We also provide a copy during our admission visit and leave a copy in the patient's home notebook. You can also find a copy in our office.
