Physician Care Plan Oversight

Care Plan Oversight (CPO) is physician supervision of patients under the Medicare home health benefit (G0181). To qualify for CPO, the patient must require complex or multi-disciplinary care modalities requiring ongoing physician involvement. The beneficiary must be receiving Medicare covered home health services during the period which CPO services are furnished and the physician must have provided a covered physician service that required a face-to-face encounter with the beneficiary in the six months before the first billing for CPO services. The home health agency cannot provide billing assistance to the physician.

Home Therapy outlines additional requirements and processes for payments related to CPO in a Q & A document that can be obtained by calling 512-637-1550.
